In July, a 7-year-old German Shepherd became the first documented case of Covid-19 fatality in a pet dog in the U.S. Because our knowledge of Covid-19 is so new and limited, we are still learning about how the disease is spread. There is no current evidence to suggest that pet animals play a significant role in the transmission of the disease.
That said, with two dogs having died from the infection, experts have made common sense recommendations that are focused on hand-washing/sanitizing and social distancing.
